Pattern and color are taste. These three numbers decide how the carpet wears.
Face Weight, in Ounces
How much fiber is packed into each square yard. Around 30 oz suits bedrooms; 40 oz and up is what we point at stairs and family rooms.
- Density matters more than pile height. Press your thumb in: the less backing you feel, the longer it lasts.
Fiber: Nylon, Polyester or Triexta
Nylon resists crushing and cleans best; polyester is softer and stain-resistant but mats in traffic lanes; triexta sits between the two.
- For pets and kids we recommend solution-dyed nylon or triexta, named on your quote.
Pad: 7/16 Inch, 8 lb Density
The pad takes the footfall, not the carpet. A dense 8 lb rebond pad adds years; a cheap 6 lb pad is where most carpet jobs quietly cut cost.
