A painted cabinet lasts exactly as long as the prep underneath it. These three specs separate professional cabinet painting from a weekend job that peels at the handles.
Kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking oil. Every surface gets a degreaser, a scuff sand and a tack wipe, which is the difference between a finish that bonds and one that peels at the handles within a year.
A shellac or urethane bonding primer grips old lacquer and thermofoil and blocks tannin bleed from oak and cherry, so the white stays white.
A waterborne alkyd or urethane cabinet enamel sprayed in two coats cures hard enough to resist chips and wipe clean. Brushed latex wall paint on cabinets is what peels.
One visit to check the cabinets, one fixed number, one week to a new kitchen.

Call, text or book online with a rough count of doors and the color you have in mind. We book a measurement within 48 hours.

An installer checks the door material and condition, counts doors and drawers, confirms color and sheen with you and hands you one written price.

Doors and fronts numbered and removed, everything degreased and sanded, primed, sprayed in two coats, then rehung and adjusted with new hardware.
If the boxes are solid and the layout works, cabinet refinishing gives you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of the cost of replacement. Refacing adds new doors, drawer fronts and veneer when the doors themselves are the problem. Replacement is for swollen boxes and layouts that do not work. We tell you plainly which you have.
| Refinishing (painting) | Refacing | Replacement | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical DC-area cost | $3,000 – $8,000 | $4,000 – $12,000 | $12,000 – $80,000+ |
| Time on site | About 1 week with FIXO | 1–2 weeks | 3–8 weeks |
| What changes | New color and finish on the same doors and boxes | New doors and drawer fronts, veneer on the boxes | New boxes, usually new countertops too |
| Best when | Boxes and doors are solid and the layout works | Doors are damaged or you want a new door style | Boxes are swollen or the layout does not work |

Every door and drawer front is labeled, removed and taken to a spray setup. Hardware comes off, surfaces are degreased, scuff-sanded and wiped, then a bonding primer and two coats of cabinet enamel are sprayed and cured. In the kitchen, the boxes, face frames and end panels are masked and sprayed in place. Doors are rehung, hinges adjusted so gaps are even, and new pulls fitted on existing or new holes.

Where we talk you out of it: particleboard boxes that have swollen from a leak, and thermofoil doors that are peeling. Paint will not fix either. There we point you at a complete remodel or refacing.

week to finish
Kitchen cabinet painters in the DC area commonly quote 3 to 5 days for a typical kitchen. FIXO plans about a week: doors are sprayed off site over several days, the boxes are done in place in a day or two, and the doors are rehung at the end.
| Working day | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Doors and drawer fronts numbered and removed, kitchen masked, every surface degreased |
| Day 2 | Scuff sanding and bonding primer on doors and boxes |
| Days 3–4 | Two coats of cabinet enamel sprayed on the doors off site and the boxes in place |
| Days 5–6 | Doors rehung, hinges adjusted so the gaps are even, hardware fitted, touch-ups |
The enamel is dry to the touch within hours but keeps hardening for several weeks, so go easy on the doors and skip harsh cleaners for the first month.

If the boxes are solid and the layout works, yes. Refinishing costs a fraction of replacement, takes about a week instead of several weeks, and keeps your countertops in place. If the boxes are swollen or the layout does not work, a complete kitchen remodel is the better spend.
Most kitchens take about a week: doors off and sprayed over several days, boxes done in place in a day or two, doors rehung at the end.
Mostly. Counters and appliances are masked on the days we spray the boxes, but you keep the sink and fridge for the rest.
We spray. Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in our spray setup for a smooth, factory-like finish, and the boxes are sprayed in place behind full masking. Brushed latex wall paint is what usually peels on cabinets.
A sprayed cabinet enamel cures hard and resists chips far better than brushed paint. Normal wear around pulls after years is possible and easy to touch up.
Yes. Grain filling for a smooth finish is its own line on the quote; some people prefer the texture left visible.
Any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore color, in satin or semi-gloss. We bring sprayed samples to the measurement.
Restaining only works on solid wood, usually means stripping the old finish, and is best for staying the same color or going darker. Painting is the better choice for going lighter or covering worn spots. We will tell you at the measurement which suits your doors.
